10 Things Any New Puppy Parent May Want To Own

These items are practically *pawfect* in every way.

  1. squirrel-hiding toy thousands of dogs are obsessed with — and yours will be too.

If you haven't heard of this toy yet, prepare to be amazed. Essentially, it is a plush toy that features a log with three to six squeaky squirrels. Stuff those little guys inside the log and let your pup go to town trying to sniff 'em out! This is 100% the next thing I'm buying for my dog — it has 5,000+ 5-star reviews! It also comes in four different sizes so you can find the one that fits your dog best.

Promising review: "I only bought this because of the high ratings and low price. As soon as I showed my dog the toy he went crazy. I hide the squirrels in the trunk and he loves shoving his snout in the opening and pulling the squirrels out. Maybe he feels like he's hunting, or perhaps it makes him feel like an apex predator, but he loves it, lol. I bought the small size for my 10 lb. dog. The squirrels are just the right size and fit perfectly into his mouth. He has enjoyed countless hours with this toy and its almost time to buy a replacement."

2. A feeding mat that'll mimic the way dogs hunted for food in nature, letting them tap into their instincts just like the good ol' days.

Promising review: "Love it, was a hit the minute I put it down! Three little dogs don't even notice us leaving with this mat — great distraction, mind workout, and fun all round. Shipping was incredibly fast. Have already told all my friends with fur babies. Have already washed it as well holds up well."

Get it from Amazon for $39.95.

3. A genius doggie doorbell to prevent your pup from scratching up their door and let them seriously impress your guests when they ring to come inside.

Promising review: "Our potty-bell prankster loves this! She learned how to use it in about two days, now no more accidents. We use it as a way for our Rott to tell us when she needs to go out. She sometimes uses it to play; pushing the button running out and in a circle like a crazy pup and then runs full speed back in. LoL. We find our potty-bell prankster hilarious so it works for us, and as long as you have a sense of humor with your pup, this is very worth it. We have a happy puppy and we're happy she's no longer pottying indoors."

Get it from Amazon for $30.

4. doggie seat belt so you can take your typically over-excited pup in the car or on a bike ride and know they'll be paw-fectly safe.

Promising review: "I had originally purchased these seat belts in 2016, and they were a literal lifesaver for my dog. My car was totaled when a car going 45mph in the opposite direction crossed lanes and hit us. My dog was wearing her seat belt and the police and EMTs were shocked that she was OK and didn’t fly through the windshield on impact. They could barely get my door open and I went to the hospital, but my dog was injury-free. I just purchased a new set for my new car, and I would recommend these without question to any dog owner!"

5. handheld roller massager you can use to pamper your pet — I'm sure their lives are suuuuuper stressful.

Promising review: "We massage our 10-year-old golden retriever at least three times a week. She loves it! She'll even fall asleep at times while we move it around. It's difficult to see your pup age and, sadly, arthritis is inevitable with large breeds, but items like these are helpful for symptom management. Ball is easy to clean and fits comfortably in your hand."

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

6. Protective wax to protect your pet's precious little paws from snow, rain, ice, etc.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to sit on the floor with my dog after he finished running around the yard in the snow to pick out tiny balls of ice and snow from in between his paw pads. If I had known this product existed I would've picked it up YEARS ago.

Promising review: "I bought this to use on my dog's paws before our winter walks and it does exactly what it says. I have found another use that is amazing. My old dog has something called hyperkeratosis on his nose. It's an excessive skin growth that gets super dry and cracks on his nose. I decided to try Musher's Secret on his nose and in just two days the difference in significant and amazing. The Musher's Secret is softening the extra skin and allowing it to slough off."

Get it from Amazon for $21.99.

7. handheld dog shower attachment you can use to host an at-home spa day for you and your pup.

Who says a day of pampering should only be for us humans? This easy-to-use pet wand will help you shower your dog with love (and water) from the comfort of your home. My dog personally hates the car, so taking all 80 pounds of him to the groomer is often a struggle (to say the least). By using this attachment he can clean up without feeling anxious. The unique wand is curved to provide full coverage while washing your pet. It also has an 8-foot-long flexible hose for extended reach and be used indoors or outdoors.

Promising review: "Owners of long-haired/thick-coated breeds: This is what you've been looking for. I've waited over 20 years for this and have used everything from custom heads to kitchen wash heads. The water flow from this even at low pressure (40 psi) is excellent, adjustment on handle are well-thought-out, and this WILL get right through a thick undercoat."

Get it from Amazon for $58.93.

8. Furbo dog treat camera to let you feed your little furball no matter where you are.

The Furbo dog camera is actually life-changing. If you're in a long-distance relationship with your pet (like I am) or you're away for a period of time (or even just the day), it can truly hurt your heart to be away from your furry BFF. Thanks to this gadget, people like you and I can still feel connected to our pet! The camera allows you to see and hear your dog, talk to them, and to toss them a treat! It's amazing.

Promising review: "I bought this item for my girlfriend who is deployed overseas in Bahrain. She loves her dog more than anything so I knew this would be a perfect gift for her. The first night I had the Furbo I was awoken several times in the middle of the night by high-pitched squealing and giggling of glee from my girlfriend not being able to contain herself. She was so excited to see him, talk to him, and give him treats, and OH BOY does she like giving him treats! By the time she gets back from her deployment I am sure he will be overweight and won't be able to run to her when she gets home. Thanks Furbo, your product is awesome and we all love it!"

Get it from Amazon for $199.

9. handheld ball launcher, for when you and your doggo head to the park for some one-on-one, slobber-free playtime.

I do not have the best throwing arm — and my golden retriever, Luke, always looks at me like, "R U KIDDING?" when I throw him his favorite tennis ball. Luckily for me, the Chuckit! ball launcher exists to help me (and him) have a better game of fetch.

Promising review: "Without these launchers I would need my arms amputated. They are incredibly useful. You don't have to touch slobbery balls or risk damaging your arm from throwing too much. The 25- or 26-inch lengths are the ones that most people probably want. You don't have to bend all the way over to reload. These make playing fetch so much easier and more enjoyable for both me and my fetching-obsessed golden retriever."

Get it from Amazon for $7.95.

10. booster seat for the car to keep your lil' woofer safe and help 'em peep out the window during your next road trip.

a small dog sitting in a basket-like booster seat in the car
Recommended for dogs up to approximately 20 lbs., but can hold up to 30 lbs.

Promising review: "The seat took a little while for my dog to get used to because she is hesitant about anything to do with the car. She gets really carsick and I've tried just about everything else. This has helped so much! She is high enough where she can see out and I added some towels/padding so she feels secure and doesn't flop around."

Get it from Amazon for $56.69+ (available in six colors).
